The American Business Water Coalition (ABWC) recently published a report underscoring the threat to water and wastewater utilites from increasingly intense extreme precipitation events and other weather-related hazards. The report also highlights the risk of aging infrastructure and calls for a significant increase in funding by the federal government.

NASA Open-Source Geospatial Tool Helps Water Managers Monitor Potential Water Loss

Sustainable water management is a challenge in many areas around the country, especially in the arid western U.S. To help with this issue, researchers from NASA, the Desert Research Institute (DRI), and Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), created a free online tool, OpenET, for mapping evapotranspiration at the scale of individual plots of land, which can improve water management.

FEMA Updates its Mitigation Action Portfolio, Helping Enhance Resilience to Natural Hazard Threats

Last week, FEMA released new updates for its Mitigation Action Portfolio (MAP). This portfolio offers details on innovative hazard mitigation projects for a variety of natural hazards that stakeholders could potentially get funding for under one of FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Assistance programs.
