The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) just released its 2021 National Preparedness Report. The report examines the risks to the nation’s preparedness goals, and current capabilities to address those risks. This report focuses on the nation’s evolving risk environment, which is being driven primarily by climate change and emerging technologies. Additionally, the report highlights the nation’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and provides lessons learned that can be applied to future incidents. According to FEMA, “the report [also] identifies the challenges that emergency managers face in addressing a growing risk environment and how they meet those challenges to better prepare the nation.” This report will help all levels of government, the private sector, and all other community stakeholders in supporting decisions about program priorities, resource allocations, and next steps.
