U.S. EPA recently released a new tool intended to offer pointers on mitigating the impacts of natural disasters, such as floods, earthquakes, droughts, wildfires and tornadoes on water and wastewater services. An interactive PDF, Hazard Mitigation for Natural Disasters: A Starter Guide for Water and Wastewater Utilities touches on why mitigation is important, how to be included in your community's local mitigation plan, how to identify potential mitigation projects for each type of disaster and how to implement and fund proposed mitigation projects.
