U.S. EPA has posted the Public Health Surveillance Design Guidance for SRSs and the Public Health Surveillance Assessment and Interview Form for public health surveillance efforts.
The two publications are part of EPA's Water Quality Surveillance and Response (SRS) program.
Public health surveillance is the ongoing collection and analysis of data, such as emergency department visits and calls to poison control centers, for the purpose of detecting disease and illness in a community. The guidance document covers leveraging ongoing public health surveillance for detecting possible drinking water contamination incidents. The assessment form is a fillable PDF that utilities can use to engage their public health partners and document existing public health surveillance capabilities. EPA.
