EPA has published the recording and combined presentation from the “Building Security and Resilience to Cyber Threats, Disinformation, and other Hazards in the Water and Wastewater Sector” webinar it hosted on October 7. It has also created a document with links to the resources that were discussed during the webinar. WaterISAC Lead Analyst Charles Egli and Cybersecurity Risk Analyst Jennifer Walker both presented during this webinar, discussing the role of WaterISAC supporting and furthering the security and resilience of the sector and recent cyber incidents and threats relevant to water and wastewater utilities. Representatives of EPA’s Water Sector Division and the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies also spoke during the webinar. The EPA representative discussed the balance of valuable technology needs, such as Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), with cybersecurity measures in the context of water quality surveillance and response systems (SRS). And the AMWA representative elaborated on the challenges that disinformation – inaccurate information spread deliberately and with malicious intent – can pose to utilities.
