The World Resources Institute has released a publication titled Roadmap to Support Local Climate Resilience: Lessons from The Rising Tides Summit, the result of a conference between elected officials from coastal states and federal government agencies to improve communities’ ability to react to extreme weather events. The roadmap presents eight recommendations, each with their own list of actions, that the incoming administration and Congress can take to support local and state resilience efforts. The recommendations touch on incentives for pre-disaster resilience; integration of resilience into planning, design, management, and investment; prioritizing pre-disaster support for vulnerable populations and most at-risk communities; expand public-private partnerships; enhancing disaster resilience-focused metrics and economic impact assessments; and increasing public awareness.
