October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a global effort to help everyone stay safe and protected when using technology whenever and however you connect. Cybersecurity Awareness Month is co-led by the National Cyber Security Alliance and CISA and is designed to engage and educate public and private-sector partners through events and initiatives with the goal of raising awareness about cybersecurity to increase the resiliency of the nation. Now in its 21st year, Cybersecurity Awareness Month continues to build momentum and impact with the ultimate goal of providing everyone with the information they need to stay safer and more secure online.
Secure Our World
Beginning in 2023, CISA introduced its cybersecurity awareness initiative, Secure Our World, which will serve as the enduring theme for this year’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month. This theme emphasizes the significance of consistently taking steps to mitigate online risks and safely using connected devices. It includes four simple actions: use strong passwords, turn on multifactor authentication (MFA), recognize and report phishing, and update software.
Become a Champion!
Every organization is invited to demonstrate its support for Cybersecurity Awareness Month by becoming a Champion. This year, WaterISAC is once again a Champion, and joins fellow ISACs/ISAOs, water and wastewater utilities, and other water sector entities as a Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2024 Champion Organization.
Becoming a Cybersecurity Awareness Month Champion (National Cybersecurity Alliance) or partner (CISA) provides you with ready-made resources and a toolkit to demonstrate your support. Most importantly it includes a presentation and other content to share with your employees for security awareness training and reminders.
Join us today and throughout this month to bolster your security awareness program! Each Friday during Cybersecurity Awareness Month, WaterISAC will be distributing a convenient, easy-to-read, one-page handout to pass along to users to help augment your security awareness refreshers and reminders. The handouts will cover topics consistent with each of Cybersecurity Awareness Month's four key behaviors. Pass ‘em out and post ‘em up! Read more at the National Cybersecurity Alliance.
